Kansas City Favorites: American Slang

3 Descriptors: YUM. Bright. Off the Beaten Path.

I was excited to use some of a stay-acation day to try out the (still semi-new?) renovated Intercontinental restaurant and bar space, American Slang Modern Brasserie, with my good friend, Tiff.  After we busted our booties at the gym, we just packed it back in with goat cheese croquettes (two orders, that good).  We also had wine and other notable dishes, worth it.

They describe themselves as European/French-inspired cuisine with an American twist on timeless favorites - and I think that's spot on. The menu is fresh and not boring, but also approachable and unique.  For instance, besides the croquettes, I had the Brasseries Quiche, Tiff had Blue Crab Cakes and we split the Bistro Pommes Frites.

And the space just really did it for me. It was light, bright and gilded.  Oh, and comfortable - that's important to me, especially when I'm relaxing with friends. I loved the bright local art and big KC mural along the wall, plus all the Christmas decor made it feel extra festive. To me, the surroundings of a restaurant and comfort are just as important as the food itself. ðŸ¤·

If you know the Intercontinental, you know it for it's most amazing view of the Plaza - which now is the perfect time to take in the view with all the holiday lights.  Even more, they have live music many nights - so if you go for dinner or drinks, you are in for an extra treat, as well as during Sunday Brunch.  A definite new favorite Kansas City locale of mine!
