Summer is all about getting away from the daily grind, spending some extra time with loved ones and laughing, a lot. At least to me. And you don't have to plan some big trip away that sometimes takes more out of you than the replenishing you need to escape. A couple weekends ago, a few girlfriends and I took a staycation just a few miles away from where we live to The Country Club Plaza.
It was a night of girl chat, laughing, dancing, good food, more laughing, delicious drinks and staying up way too late. It was simply amazing and exactly what my soul needed! The next morning my cheeks were sore from all the smiling and laughing. It was just such a great night of bonding with friends - and you know what? It was so easy to do and then we just rolled on home. No traveling fatigue, massive unpacking, getting too behind on everything. It was perfect (except next time we're doing 2 nights!). Here is what we did:
We stayed at the super nice and modern Hotel Sorella on the west side of The Plaza. This space is beautiful and was the perfect place for my three friends and I to stay. The rooms are super bright, the bathroom big enough for us all to primp and beds actually super comfortable! The hotel also has amazing spaces (Bar Rosso and Francesca's) to dine, but we headed out on the town after some girl time getting ready together, while munching on cheese I picked up from Better Cheddar and sipping on wine we brought.
Our first stop was dinner and drinks at Zócalo - which ended up being the most perfect place to go have some really amazing food and a ridiculously fantastic time. I love Mexican food, but this locally owned restaurant has such diversity and uniquely paired components that this night brought out the foodie in me that I didn't even know existed!
We had several meals and passed them around family-style so we could taste everything - I highly recommend doing that because there were so many good things:
{Lobster Quesadillas - the sweet corn with the buttery fish is divine}
{Lobster Mac & Cheese - you guys - you have to try this - the Lobster was generous, too!}
{Mahi grilled fish with 7 pepper seasoning tacos - their best seller}
{Grilled half chicken with almonds, chillies, garlic and smashed potatoes}
{Their new item, the Chilean Sea Bass with summer veggies and arugula}
We had a pitcher of their "Perfect Pour" margarita which they mix Patron right at the table. It was delicious! We then tasted their hand crafted frozen drinks (some seasonal) - and there was something for everyone. I liked them all, but my favorite was the Jalapeño Cooler which is packed with flavor and complexly mixing sweet and spice using jalapeño-infused vodka and strawberry shrub.
After we were stuffed and buzzed (why not?! all we had to do was walk back to the hotel later), we went to sit on the patio at Gram & Dun where we ran into some friends. Then later we went to JJ's to sit outside and catch the breeze on the 2nd floor. Finally, we headed back to Zócalo (because we hadn't had enough I guess!) to dance.
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, they have live music playing and the vibe is so carefree and fun. We danced the night away before walking back to the hotel. I crawled into bed and slept like a rock!
The next morning, we headed back out to the Plaza to have brunch at Classic Cup and had high hopes to have a pool day at the hotel (and what a view it has!), but the weather had different plans for us and rained the rest of the day. So instead, we all took naps. Why not?!
So, if you're looking for a girlfriend staycation - I would highly recommend staying at the Hotel Sorella, going out to dinner and drinks at Zócalo and hitting the town. You could even add on a trip to Beauty Brands to get your hair and/or nails done and shopping if you have time! Next year, we're making it 2 nights so we can do more!
