Most people think to travel to Colorado and all it's adorable towns that are nestled into the mountain sides during winter for ski season, but my absolute favorite time to travel these parts is during the summer. We ventured west for 5 days with my parents, sister and my own little family to play in the great outdoors of Breckenridge. I wasn't sure what to expect or what we'd actually be able to do with two littles in tow, but it turned out to be fabulous.
Liam is naturally at his happiest when he is playing and exploring outside, so this was just like the biggest, most awesome playground for him ever. I'm not sure I've ever seen him happier. Plus he was surrounded by his family, whom all was excited to show him something new, take him up the snow mountain, on a roller coaster, down the Alpine slide or on a hike.
Twice we took the Gondola up the mountain to the Summer Fun Park, where Liam road his first roller coaster (with me). I was so nervous that'd mid-way through he'd hate it, I was nervous I'd been scared. So after the long ride up the mountain before the start of the multiple drops and turns and circles, I was trying to stay strong for Liam when I realize, he was thrilled. And all the way down, he just screamed, "weeeee", while I white-knuckled the brake. At the end of the ride, he cried because he didn't want to get off. Two days later, before we went hiking, he went again with my husband and also braved the Alpine Slide. This kid loves adventure.
In addition to all that, we got to see the Budweiser Clydesdale horses that were in town for the 4th of July parade. I'm not sure who was more excited about these horses, my dad or Liam, but it was pretty neat. We visited them everyday and even got to watch them being exercised. Their team of trainers would take two out at a time (of 10 there total) and walk them around the parking lot.
In between all the adventure, we walked along Main street, shopping, eating, getting coffee and taking in the breathtaking mountain scenery from all angles. It was a packed 5 days of so much fun.
{^^ Liam was pretty thrilled about playing in the snow, while wearing SHORTS! }
{^^ Clydesdales are the prettiest and strongest horses out there. The Budweiser team grooms them every single day and they can haul 1 ton!}
{^^ On top of the world!}
{^^ Baby Nora had a pretty good time, too. She spent most of her time in the stroller, baby Bjorn or being held, but she loved looking around, people watching and did a pretty good job of napping on the go.}
Stay tuned for our 4th of July/last part of the trip recap coming tomorrow!
