Tick-tock. Summer to-do list #2 (you can see my first summer to-do fulfilled here) was to have a picnic at the Nelson-Atkins, Kansas City's museum of art, which also has an expansive lawn and sculpture park. I've wanted to take Liam to explore their outdoors and end an evening with dinner under the trees all summer, so nothing like waiting until late-August to get to it. We had a fun family afternoon into evening adventure (it's always an adventure when with a toddler) of chasing after Liam, trying to capture some cute pics of him (I guess I need to leave it to the professionals for updated photos as there was no holding still for even a second for mama) and ending with a relaxing (for all of 2 minutes) dinner.
But in reality, it was a pretty evening and I loved spending it outside with my little family. As hectic as entertaining a toddler can be, these little adventures are something I love! So, I'm happy that we're taking the better late than never road to get out and about and enjoy our city before summer is gone and our family grows by one. I can only imagine that these little outings will get a little more hectic with two littles to chase after, but all the sweeter, too.
{Outfit details: Sweater top - Madewell, Skirt - ASOS (similar or this one or this one; love all their midi skirts), Sandals - Old Navy last summer, Necklaces & Sunnies - Hello Cheeseburger, Bag - so old I can't remember, but here's a cute basket bag great for pool or picnics}
After exploring the entire property, all around the museum, leaving no statue unseen, no stair unclimbed, no stone wall unclimbed, we grabbed our cooler and blanket from the car and set up our easy dinner picnic. I brought fruit (Liam's favorites) with an all-in-one pasta salad, adapted from this recipe
here. I added peas and used parmesan cheese instead of feta. We brought paper plates and plastic-wear and the blanket I toted back over 4 years ago from Guatemala, when we visited on our honeymoon to Belize. New cell phone case c/o
The Case by Slickwraps, a local Kansas company and the one I chose in particular, made from wood!
